It would appear some people who’d benefit from the Flood Protection product demo and presentation have alternative arrangements for this Sunday. In light of this we’re going to postpone it for a few weeks.
We’ll get it rescheduled and let you know the new details on this blog and by email for those people who have expressed an interest.

Freuchie Flood Action Group has organised a short presentation and demonstration from UK Flood Barriers of their flood prevention and protection product offering. This will take place at 2pm on Sunday 29th March 2009 at Freuchie Cricket Club.
Anyone affected or at risk from flooding is welcome to attend, whether they be from Freuchie or other affected communities in Fife and beyond. Please just let us know you’re coming using our online Contact Us form.
Alan Ure of UK Flood Barriers will also be available to perform a free home survey to anyone that is interested. Again, Contact Us to arrange a suitable time for a survey.
In our opinion their airbrick protection product is the industry leader, as it is fully automatic, and the “Floodshield” barrier door is very simple to use. There are massive price reductions coming down the pipeline in a few weeks, compared with those indicated on the website at the moment, thereby making the products substantially cheaper than any of the competition. Fully protecting your home is now going to be very affordable at a price that won’t empty the wallet.

Some additional information from UK Flood Barriers:
“Flood Prevention & Protection”
UK Flood Barriers Ltd have had a very busy summer due in no small part to recent appalling weather. We work together with construction companies and housing associations, as well as assisting locally formed flood groups in villages throughout the country to decide on the most appropriate measures they can take to protect their homes and businesses.
UK Flood Barriers specialise in offering solutions to the ever-increasing problem of water ingress into homes and businesses. Climate change is here to stay and the signs are not looking favourable; the UK has suffered two of the wettest summers in a row, and flash flooding is sadly a common occurrence.
UK Flood Barriers has a range of innovative “fit and forget” flood defence products, which, used in conjunction can prevent homes and businesses from flooding. The benefit of our “fit & forget” range enables householders and businesses to be prepared well in advance of flood warnings, without having to panic-fit airbrick covers or experience the misery of sewage backflow. Our door barriers complement the range and can be fitted in just two minutes. They are strong and lightweight (weighing between 4.8 and 5.8kg each) and come ready to use, with no permanent fixtures or fittings required to the property.
UK Flood Barriers are constantly striving for improvements in innovation. We pride ourselves on providing user-friendly and cost effective solutions for our customers, to give them peace of mind that whichever flood solution they have chosen they will be covered in the event of future flooding.

Cllr David MacDiarmid joined representatives from Freuchie Flood Action Group today on a tour of the work carried out at Freuchie Mill over the last few weeks. As a parting gift we gave Cllr MacDiarmid a number of further tasks to take away with him. We know he will diligently work through our list!
Freuchie Flood Action Group appreciate the care and attention that Cllr MacDiarmid has paid to the residents of Freuchie affected by last year’s floods and draw comfort from knowing he is working on our side to bring flood prevention improvements to Freuchie.

Residents at Freuchie Mill are delighted to see the completion of the culvert repair work at No 19. The sound of running water, the visible culvert pipe and the large hole in the garden was a source of ongoing anxiety and stress for many of the residents.
The drainage contractor appears to have done an excellent job of fixing the damaged section of culvert pipe and reinstating the lawn, which should be back to normal in a few weeks once the grass starts to sprout some green shoots.

John A Thomson, Chairman of Freuchie Flood Action Group, took time out today at the SEPA Business Flood Risk Conference to personally invite Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Minister of the Environment, to visit the flood affected village of Freuchie.
It was a delight for John to spend ten minutes conversing with the Minister just before she delivered an excellent keynote speech. We’ll bring you more on the content of her speech soon.
Freuchie Cricket Club will be heartened to hear she enthusiastically mentioned the “sport of the village” when first introduced to our man from Freuchie Flood Action Group.
The Minister’s private secretary indicated it should be possible to set-up the visit for sometime in the summer – very welcome news indeed. We can’t wait to brief the Minister on the road we have travelled and explain the big plans being put in place for the benefit of the whole community! Thanks go to the Minister and her team.

Day one of the culvert repair work at Freuchie Mill draws to a close, during which much progress appears to have taken place.

The damaged section, photo below, has been cut out and patched with a section of new culvert pipe, completed with a bead of cement around the edges of the repair.

Looks good so far.

Contractors have started on the repair of the damaged section of culvert pipe at No 19, funded by the householder’s insurance company.

The workmen expect it to take 2 – 3 days to complete the work, which includes replacing the pipe section, encasing the repair in concrete and filling in the hole.
Fingers crossed the heavy rain stays away for the next few days!
