At the Freuchie Community Council meeting last night Cllr MacDiarmid announced the intention of Fife Council to bring forward the work required to reduced the flood risk from water running down and off Freuchie Mill Road. It has been indicated that the work will be completed by February / March 2010.
A few weeks ago council officers came onsite to look at the problem and to start the process of looking into possible solutions. We liaised with these officers and offered our local knowledge and some of our ideas for flood prevention measures. Surveyors are onsite today taking measurements for the Freuchie Mill Road Drainage improvement works. Good progress is now being made on this project.
Thank you to our local councillors and Fife Council officers for recognising the urgency and importance of this work and prioritising it accordingly. This small project is going to make a considerable difference to the flooding issue at Freuchie Mill.

Its good that we are finally seeing some preventative measures taking place
A down and dirty solution could be to install a large wide sleeping policeman, the full width of the road and up to kerb hight right on the junction.
As much as I hate yet more speed bumps, done right it would be high enough to divert the water from coming into Freuchie Mill and down towards the bridge.
It would be a cheaper option than a full regrade of the road I would have thought.
This is going to be a proper drainage solution to the flood risk and a decent budget has been put in place for the building of appropriate measures. We talked about changing the road camber, installation of gulleys, a cattle grid type channel along the entrance of Freuchie Mill that drains into the burn, etc.
It will just be good to see this source of flooding dealt with and allow us to concentrate on the other two main sources of flood risk!
I am so pleased for the people of Freuchie Mill that some kind of work is going to be done to help with the flood risk. Keep up the good work!! and mayby you will be able to sleep in your beds withour worrying about the rain every time it comes on.
