The Fife Herald has a news article in this week’s paper about the flood response improvements made by Fife Council and partner agencies. Freuchie is mentioned in the article with a comment or two being supplied by FFAG.

Something a little different for once and certainly off topic!

The Fife Herald has a report this week about the beloved and respected Cameron MacKenzie who has pledged to do a 10k walk once a month for the next 10 months as a way of raising awareness of and funds for Alzheimer Scotland. He and his family are dedicating this to the memory of his wife Joyce, who lost her battle against this condition last year. The feat is all the more impressive when you learn the ex-Minister is eighty years old. 

Anyone who takes an active involvement in village life will know Cameron well through his good works and participation in the community that has over the years made Freuchie a much richer place to stay in. We now have an opportunity to support him in his endeavours.

Another excellent article by Liz Rougvie on Page 3 of this week’s Fife Herald. Freuchie gets a mention in a round-up of areas that survived flooding this time around.

Liz has also written the front page article on flooding. It is interesting to see Ming Campbell MP calling for proactive action on flooding. Freuchie Flood Action Group will be interested to hear how he is going to play a part in making this happen. His blog, as of today, fails to even mention the NE Fife floods of last Sunday.

The Fife Herald must have held the presses this week as we didn’t send them the published photo until Thursday morning. Normally you’ve got to get your submissions in by Wednesday afternoon for it to appear that week.

The Courier has a front page article on the flooding that affected so many parts of Scotland yesterday. It was particularly sad to see homes being flooded again with not even a year having past since they last got flooded.

The Scottish Sun also has a shorter write up that highlights the problem being made much worse by passing buses. Questions must be asked why buses were allowed to continue through the flood waters! Hopefully lessons will be learned and action applied to prevent problems being exasperated by large vehicles making the problem worse.

We’ve had a busy week in the media thanks once again to the Fife Herald and The Courier: one mention in the Fife Herald and two in The Courier.

Both newspapers focused on our participation in the launch event for the Scottish Flood Forum and the meeting of Freuchie Flood Action Group committee members with Mr Mike Russell MSP, Minister for the Environment and his department officials.

They also highlighted the ministers acceptance of a visit to Freuchie in the new year. We’ll keep you informed of progress with the ministers visit as developments and plans are made.

Once again we need to thank The Courier and Fife Herald for continuing to feature Freuchie Flood Action Group in their news content this week.

Tuesday saw us in print responding to the generous offer from Network Rail to contribute towards a full scale hydrology study for Freuchie. We look forward to hearing how the talks between Fife Council and Network Rail progress over the coming weeks and months. It was heartening to see Mr Moodie from Fife Council indicating that both Falkland and Freuchie were now in line for a full hydrology study:

The Falkland and Freuchie application will be put on a list for Fife and will be prioritised with all other areas.

It may be a year or so before we get round to Freuchie.

However, it would be even more welcome to see this happening quicker than the estimated "year or so".

The call by Freuchie Flood Action Group for £1m to fund a proper flood prevention scheme, as announced by Vice Chairman Jim Mullen, got a mention here on the Fife Today website.

This time last week we blogged about the Culvert Entrance Maintenance completed by local resident Duncan Buchanan and Neil Duff, which got featured by Liz Rougvie on page 11 of the Fife Herald. The story was illustrated by a photo taken of Duncan and Neil hard at work. A wider discussion on the Fife Structure Plan was also discussed, which demonstrated a greater flood awareness by local politicians and officials in future planning considerations.
